Style and Sustainability... Working with Bolivian artisans enables us to create sustainable employment while distributing income more fairly throughout the supply chain. The women artisans who knit these hats are working out of their homes, allowing them to earn valuable income while caring for their children. The purchase of our hand-knit hats leads to a progressive improvement in the income of small-scale artisans, allowing them a better quality of life.

Alpaca products are very soft, keep their shape, are anti-static, easy to care for and resistant to pilling - making it an ideal fiber to wear all year round. Alpacas belong to the camelid family and come from the South American Andes. They live at an altitude of around 3,500 meters above sea level in conditions that vary between extremes of cold and heat. Alpaca wool sits alongside silk and cashmere as one of the most highly valued natural fibers in the world. The special feeling of comfort which alpaca gives comes from microscopic air cushions inside each hair that allow garments to be light but warm. Alpacas are an ecologically sound choice of livestock. They require less pasture than other types of grazing livestock, walk gently on the earth - their softly padded feet leaving the pasture they walk on undamaged - and graze on grass without pulling it up by the roots. Alpaca have extremely efficient digestive systems. The amount of grass consumed by one cow can sustain ten alpaca.
